1st birthday Photo update

While I wish we had time for a post encompassing the full breadth of all happenings since the Easter post, this one will be short... just a quick check in and some pictures from the birthday party we threw Austin and Malia last weekend.  I wish I could wax poetic about our feelings on this milestone.  Needless to say, it's a HUGE milestone for 27 week preemies, especially when we can definitively say that they're healthy and well on their way to catching up to their true age benchmarks.  It's hard to believe how a year went by so fast, but perhaps the more relevant milestone will be the year mark from their respective NICU graduation dates.  The date they come home really is, in a sense, their true birthday, because it more nearly marks the point where they should have been born.  Either way, we wouldn't change anything for anything; I'd say these million dollar babies were worth every penny (this isn't an exaggeration, their medical bills have long since surpassed the 7-figure mark - for their insurance carriers, of course!).

So their birthday celebration was a Sesame Street themed birthday party.  Not sure that they'll remember any of it, but plenty of photos were taken for the memories.

Trying to get some smash cake inspiration with the old "frosting on the lip" trick

Malia didn't need much coaxing to get into her cake

Daddy has to taste test!

It would appear these horsies weren't made for riding, but don't tell Uncle Jun

Opening presents the day after, we can finally have Austin wear hats now that his helmet is off

Malia has some hair coming in quickly these days, and now about 8 teeth poking through

This is just about the best we could do for a birthday photo on the Sesame Street stoop

Austin and Malia are to be the ring-bearer and flower girl in Cheryl's cousin's wedding next month.  Since the whole walking thing isn't quite that far along yet for either of them, we figured a wagon might be the mode of transport.  We took a test drive of their new wheels, and they loved it!

Definitely having a good time in the choo choo wagon

Loving Malia's Chucks we got her; one of the few pairs of shoes that actually stay on her

...And there's so much more to report!  Austin getting his helmet off, teeth, getting ready to walk, road trips, swimming, eating/growing like crazy, etc., etc.

We'll have more to report soon, but for now we'll let the pictures do the talking!
